Assistant doctors at ABUTH end five-day warning strike

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), branch of the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), has suspended a five-day warning strike over non-payment of salaries owed to some members.

NARD Vice President Ashiru Mikail said in Zaria on Tuesday that the strike was suspended on Monday evening.

He said the residents resumed work at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to him, the strike was suspended after a marathon meeting between the association and the management of ABUTH.

“There was a serious commitment by the management to the association’s demands; the management had promised to stop paying percentage salaries to our members.

“The meeting also saw the planning of vigorous initiatives to curb further disagreements between the association and the ABUTH management,” he said.

The association began a five-day warning strike on July 22 to protest, among other things, against the percentage salary payment to the members of the GIFMIS platform and the non-payment of equipment allowances.
