Hit at pedestrian crossing on motorway, killed in accident

ENCINITAS, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) – A person crossing Interstate 5 on foot was struck and killed by a vehicle in the Encinitas area Monday.

The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on I-5 southbound, north of Birmingham Drive, the California Highway Patrol Oceanside said in an Instagram post.


According to authorities, a Tesla Model Y was traveling in the southbound express lane of I-5 when the pedestrian was struck by the front of the Tesla while crossing the southbound lanes.

The pedestrian died at the scene of the accident, the driver of the Tesla was uninjured.

The reasons why the pedestrian crossed the highway are currently being investigated.
