Utah State football player Andre Seldon Jr. dies in drowning accident

We have another tragic story: Andre Seldon Jr., who transferred from the Utah State Aggies, died in a drowning accident at Porcupine Reservoir in Cache County on Saturday afternoon. The Utah State Aggies’ social media posted the news on Saturday evening.

Deseret News reports that another Utah State University football player and several gymnasts were there at the time of the incident, jumping from cliffs into the reservoir. The Cache County Sheriff’s Office released the following statement on the death.

“Our initial investigation leads us to believe this was a tragic accident, as several witnesses reported the same information. Our deepest condolences go out to the student-athlete’s family and friends.”

Andre Seldon Jr. played cornerback for the New Mexico State Aggies the last two seasons before transferring to Utah State. He finished last season with 53 total tackles, one forced fumble, one interception and seven pass deflections. He was one of the players who followed Aggies interim coach Nate Dreiling from New Mexico State to Utah State this season, as Dreiling was named defensive coordinator and now interim coach.
