Weekend shooting near Independence Plaza in Kansas City ends fatally

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KCTV) – A weekend shooting near Independence Plaza in Kansas City turned fatal as police continue to investigate.

The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department reports that on Saturday, July 20, at approximately 7:30 p.m., emergency personnel were called to the area between 9th and Chestnut Avenues, two blocks east of Prospect between Independence Avenue and I-70, for reports of a shooting.

When emergency responders arrived, they found an adult male with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders took the man to the hospital where life-saving measures were administered. However, medical personnel pronounced him dead.

KCPD said the case has been opened as a homicide because patrol officers were able to locate several witnesses. Detectives will continue to interview those who saw the shooting to determine what led to the fatal incident.
