Tänak calls for FIA investigation into arching incident – DirtFish

Tänak was furious that the race director had not stopped the stage with the red flag before his arrival and called on the world motorsport governing body, the FIA, to investigate the reasons for what had happened.

“I really hope that the FIA will launch an independent investigation to really understand what happened,” Tänak told DirtFish.

“And hopefully, yeah… I mean, we definitely need to modernize safety during the competitors’ race.

“I hope it continues like this.”

Tänak’s comments at the end of the stage were caustic. He sarcastically congratulated the race organisers and hoped they had enjoyed their dinner and wine. Hyundai team boss Cyril Abiteboul hopes the “tension” created by these comments is put into the right context and that the rally organisation works together to investigate the incident.

“I don’t want to add any further comment at this point, but what we as a team and I’m sure the entire rally community want is simply to understand that in a world of interconnectedness and instant information flow, it’s not possible to know when something is blocking the road,” Abiteboul told DirtFish.
