Beaches on Nantucket’s south coast reopen after turbine incident

Everything is back to normal on the beaches on Nantucket’s south shore.

The beaches were closed as a search for debris caused by damage to offshore wind turbines was discovered.

The turbine was damaged over the weekend.

In a statement last night, officials said the “rotor blade failure incident” was still under investigation.

Regulators have not yet speculated on what exactly went wrong.

Nantucket authorities said most of the material from the broken turbines had been recovered and that normal beach activities could safely resume.

No injuries were reported.
