Man jailed for raping a woman after avoiding prison for sexually assaulting a child

An “extreme sexual deviant” who avoided prison after sexually assaulting a child has been jailed after raping a woman.

Michael Wynter, 34, was found guilty of raping the woman while she was “asleep or unconscious” between 2019 and 2021 at a property in Pinner, north-west London.

He was arrested for the attack in December 2021.

Met investigators collected evidence from his and the victim’s phones and spoke to a witness the woman had confided in during her ordeal.

Wynter, of Crayshaw Road, Lambeth, was found guilty of rape at the Old Bailey last Tuesday and sentenced to seven years in prison.

It was revealed that Wynter was already on the sex offenders’ register, having been convicted in 2021 of sexually assaulting a child in an incident between 2002 and 2003.

He was sentenced to six months in prison for indecent assault.

The sentence was suspended for 18 months, meaning he did not have to serve his sentence unless he re-offended within that period or failed to comply with the conditions.

The Metropolitan Police said Wynter will now remain on the sex offenders register for life following his rape conviction.

Detective Constable Adam Conibeere, who led the investigation, said: “Wynter is an extreme sexual predator who raped a woman while she was asleep or unconscious.”

“I would like to commend the victim-survivor who bravely navigated the entire investigation and trial and I can only hope that this outcome will provide her some comfort and the closure she deserves as she tries to move on with her life to carry on.”

“She showed incredible strength and heroism when, after much consideration, she came forward to report the matter because she did not want anyone else to suffer at Wynter’s hands.

“Tackling violence against women and girls is a top priority for the Met. We will continue to do everything we can to remove predatory offenders from the streets of London, whilst supporting complainants and helping them at every stage.”
