Bangkok Post – Man arrested for raping Ukrainian woman on Koh Samui

SURAT THANI: Police have arrested a man who allegedly raped a Ukrainian woman on Thongson Beach on Koh Samui early last week.

Police said Nathapong, 27, was arrested outside a supermarket in Tambon Bo Phut on Koh Samui on Sunday. They also confiscated the motorbike he was using on the day of the alleged crime. The suspect’s full name was not released.

Bo Phut police station chief Colonel Denduang Thongsrisuk said a 32-year-old Ukrainian tourist reported she was raped on Thongson beach at around 9 a.m. on July 8.

The police showed her surveillance camera footage of the suspect and she identified him as her attacker.

The suspect, from Prachuap Khiri Khan province, reportedly admitted in the arrest warrant issued on Sunday that he was the suspect, but claimed the sex was consensual.

The investigation was still ongoing.
