NOPD makes quick arrest in murder investigation

The NOPD has arrested a suspect in the investigation of a homicide that occurred in the early morning hours of today (July 12, 2024) in the 2200 block of New Orleans Street.

At approximately 12:17 a.m., officers with the NOPD Fifth District responded to a call of a shooting at the scene. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male with a gunshot wound on scene. The victim was later pronounced dead at the scene. As part of this investigation, one person was detained for questioning.

During the course of the investigation, NOPD Homicide Detectives determined that the suspect arrested for questioning was Erling Antunez (Hispanic male, DOB: 05/10/2001). Investigators then obtained an arrest warrant for Antunez for second degree murder and illegal possession of a firearm. Antunez was then taken to the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will identify the victim and the official cause of death after the autopsy is completed and the family is notified.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
