Woman in Gaffney hit and killed by pickup truck

GAFFNEY, SC (WSPA) – A pedestrian was struck and killed in a crash in Cherokee County Tuesday evening.

The Cherokee County Coroner’s Office identified 21-year-old Carson Melinda Wofford of Gaffney as the pedestrian in the fatal crash.

Investigators found Wofford lying near the center line of the 1100 block of North Logan Street before midnight.

According to officials, video from a nearby business confirmed that the incident began when an unidentified vehicle stopped in the street because they saw Wofford standing there. Wofford then jumped onto the hood of the car.

Wofford slid from the hood of his car onto the road and then collided with a Ford F-350 pickup truck pulling a flatbed trailer, investigators said.

Wofford was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the coroner, an autopsy is scheduled to be performed this week.

The accident remains under investigation by the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office.
