8 traffic fatalities and one drowning reported by Missouri Highway Patrol over holiday weekend

During the Missouri Highway Patrol’s July 4 count, eight people died in crashes and one person drowned. The Highway Patrol responded to 382 traffic crashes during that period, resulting in 159 injuries and eight deaths. Troopers also made 147 arrests for drunk driving. Last year, 15 people died during the count. There were deaths in several troop areas: one in Troop I (Rolla), two each in Troop C (Weldon Spring) and Troop D (Springfield), and three in Troop B (Macon, MO):Jared A. Thrapp, 45, of Forsyth, MO, died July 3 in a collision in Taney County. The crash involved multiple vehicles and there were several injuries.William C. Sweet, 48, of Monroe City, MO, died in an ATV accident in Monroe County on July 3.Teven J. Blackwell, 20, of Troy, MO, lost his life in a motorcycle accident in Pike County on July 4.Trevor A. Benda, 21, of Kirksville, MO, died when his vehicle overturned into a pond near LaPlata on July 5.Sheldonna A. Wood, 60, of Joplin, MO, was fatally struck by a vehicle in Newton County on July 5.Darrell D. Rice, 56, of Montrose, CO, died in a bicycle accident in Chariton County on July 5.Darrell J. Williams, 35, of St. Louis, MO, died in a collision in St. Louis County on July 5. Joseph R. Bialczyk, 20, of Belle, MO, died in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Maries County on July 7. The counting period began at 6 p.m. on July 3 and ended at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 7. One drowning case was reported in Troop D over the weekend. The victim, identified as Craig H. Olson, 60, of Shawnee, KS, drowned while swimming near a boat in Stockton Lake.

During the Missouri Highway Patrol’s July 4th count, eight people died in accidents and one person drowned.

In addition, officers arrested 147 people for drunk driving.

Last year, 15 people were killed during the counting period.

There were deaths in several units: one in Troop I (Rolla), two each in Troop C (Weldon Spring) and Troop D (Springfield), and three in Troop B (Macon, MO):

The counting period began on July 3 at 18:00 and ended on Sunday, July 7 at 23:59.

A drowning case was reported to Troop D over the weekend. The victim, identified as Craig H. Olson, 60, of Shawnee, Kansas, drowned while swimming near a boat in Stockton Lake.
