Woman reports 2023 hit-and-run that killed a 31-year-old woman in Wheaton

WHEATON, Ill. – A woman has been cited in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred in Wheaton nearly a year and a half ago.

Paige Donahue, 31, was struck and killed by a vehicle on Roosevelt Road near Crest Street on January 2, 2023. Police said the driver of the vehicle failed to stop after hitting her.


Wheaton police investigators have been investigating the crash for the past 16 months, but recently made a breakthrough in their investigation. Electronic search warrant results and advanced on-scene evidence analysis led to the identification of the suspected driver and vehicle.

Tarra Fiedler, of Batavia, was issued a citation for “Failure to Reduce Speed ​​to Avoid an Accident” with a later court date. Fiedler cooperated and issued a statement with further details about the evening of the fatal hit-and-run.

According to officials, no further criminal charges will be filed at this time.

The city of Wheaton issued the following statement Thursday:

Police are grateful to be able to provide Paige’s family with some answers. Her family has suffered over the past year and is still grieving to this day. This incident impacted the lives of many people, including the good Samaritans who stopped to help Paige, the deputies and firefighters who attempted life-saving measures, the investigating investigators who spent months diligently pursuing all leads, and the Thousands of community members who did this showed support for the tragic loss of this young woman.
