Assin’s central NDC in turmoil as suspended secretary threatens legal action

The Assin Central National Democratic Congress (NDC) constituency is facing upheaval as suspended constituency secretary Sadique Broni Yeboah issues a stern ultimatum to the party leadership.

Yeboah demanded that his ban be lifted within three days, otherwise he would take legal action.

The suspension of Yeboah and Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu, the chairman of the Assin Central Region, was due to their involvement in the suspension of the constituency’s parliamentary candidate, Nurein Shaibu Migyimah. Yeboah has expressed his determination to challenge his suspension through legal means if the party does not immediately lift it.

In a decisive move, the NDC national leadership intervened in the escalating conflict and declared the suspension of parliamentary candidate Nurein Shaibu Migyimah null and void. This intervention underscores the seriousness of the situation and the party’s determination to efficiently resolve internal disputes.

In a letter dated July 3, 2024, Sadique Broni Yeboah’s legal representatives to Secretary-General Fifi Kwetey called for the immediate lifting of the suspension.

The lawyers cited procedural irregularities and violations of natural justice in dealing with the suspension and stressed the need for a fair hearing in accordance with the party’s constitution and rules.

The correspondence explicitly stated: “Our client has instructed us to request the immediate lifting of his suspension within three days and to grant him a fair hearing…” It further stated that legal action would be taken if the party leadership did not meet the deadline.

The suspension of Nurein Migyimah as the party’s parliamentary candidate was based on allegations of immoral conduct and anti-party activities.

In addition, Migyimah was accused of being involved in an extramarital affair that allegedly led to the impregnation of Sadique Broni Yeboah’s wife.

Tensions within Assin’s central NDC reveal a deepening divide that threatens to undermine the party’s cohesion and electoral prospects.

As the deadline for a resolution approaches, the fate of key party members remains uncertain, underscoring the critical turning point at which the electorate finds itself.

This latest development sets the stage for a possible legal dispute within the party and signals a time of heightened uncertainty and discord in the central Assin NDC ahead of crucial political commitments.
