Smithtown man arrested for weapons and fireworks offenses

Smithtown, New York (State) – A Smithtown man was arrested on July 4 for possession of weapons and fireworks after a search warrant was executed at his home.

During the search of the home on Pia Boulevard, Suffolk County Police officers seized two assault rifles, two handguns, several high-powered battery chargers and ammunition. They also seized 15 boxes of fireworks, including approximately 100 mortars and two fireworks.

In another incident on July 4, four people were injured and several vehicles were damaged by fireworks in Port Jefferson Station.

Authorities remind citizens that fireworks are illegal in New York State and only licensed professionals are allowed to use and possess them.

  • Handgun seizure and arrest in Baltimore lead to charges against 27-year-old man

    BALTIMORE, MD– Officers from the Baltimore Police Department successfully arrested a 27-year-old man following a vehicle stop in the Western District. A handgun was confiscated and a valid arrest warrant was discovered.

    The incident occurred on the evening of July 5, 2024, at approximately 9:35 p.m. during a routine investigation near the intersection of Monroe and Mosher Streets. The arrest was made in the 1400 block of South Monroe Street, where, in addition to the handgun and ammunition, it was discovered that the suspect was wanted on a valid MTA warrant.

    Following the arrest, the suspect was transported to the central reception center where he was charged according to the results of the arrest. Safety and law enforcement in the area remain the top priority for the police.

  • Despite rescue efforts, toddler drowns in pool in Rockville

    ROCKVILLE, MD— A devastating incident in Rockville has resulted in the death of a three-year-old boy and prompted an ongoing investigation by the Montgomery County Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit.

    The tragedy occurred late Friday night at around 11:44 p.m. when emergency services received a call reporting the child missing. When Rockville City Police arrived at the scene in Elmcroft Court, they discovered the toddler in a neighborhood swimming pool. Life-saving measures were immediately initiated, with officers performing CPR before the child was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

    While the investigation is ongoing, authorities have stated that no foul play is suspected at this time. Montgomery County Police have chosen not to release the child’s name.

    In light of this incident, the Montgomery County Police Autism/IDD Unit has issued an alert urging the public to call 911 immediately if a loved one is wandering. Additional resources and safety information are available on the unit’s website to help families prevent such tragic incidents.
