Suriya threatens penalties after incident on MRT train

In addition, their contractor ranking may be downgraded to ensure public trust and reinforce maximum security measures.

Wittaya Phanmongkol, Deputy Governor (Operations) and Acting Governor of the MRTA, said: “The MRTA has not overlooked this issue and has instructed the concessionaire to review its operating procedures to ensure maximum safety for passengers and avoid any actions that may endanger passengers.”

“The MRTA reserves the right to enforce penalties strictly in accordance with the contract to prevent such incidents in the future and restore public confidence in the service,” he added.

The incident occurred at 7:01 a.m. on Thursday, July 4, when Train No. 10 was departing from Lat Phrao Station toward Nonthaburi Government Centre Station.

The train crew heard an unusual noise, as if something was hitting the train several times. They pressed the emergency stop button and reported the incident to the Central Control Room (CCR).

During an inspection, it turned out that a passenger’s bag was jammed in the door of the last carriage, which was still in the platform area.

The CCR then instructed the train crew to use the train key to open the door where the bag was stuck. However, the key did not open the door. The CCR then ordered the crew to deactivate the automatic train control system.

The staff took manual control of the train, but due to a misunderstanding in communication with the CCR, they opened the platform door in which the bag was stuck, endangering the safety of the passengers.
