Police: Search for several swimmers in Coney Island still ongoing

There was a heavy police and fire presence on Coney Island Beach on Friday evening.

News 12 spotted rescue teams in the water and saw helicopters flying overhead. Teams spotted what appeared to be a single body emerging from the water.

The identity of the missing persons is currently unknown and police believe that several swimmers are currently missing.

The city government is urging New Yorkers not to swim when lifeguards are not on duty.
