Four dogs that attacked a goat in Ashburton still at large

The dogs that attacked a goat in Ashburton, outside Pietermaritzburg, on Sunday are still at large.

The four dogs, believed to be Rottweilers, attacked and seriously injured the goat Charlotte. According to their owner Ruth Lyle, there is still no news about the whereabouts of the dogs.

“The dogs have not been found yet. No one knows where they have gone. The goatherd said the dogs were well trained and when he shouted ‘No!’ they ran away.

“The dogs were also in excellent condition. I suspect someone was letting the dogs run in the fields. It’s a huge area,” she said.

Lyle added that Charlotte is feeling the effects of her injuries.

“Charlotte is struggling with the wounds. She can’t walk and I made her a moon boot. She’s not eating and is losing weight,” she said.

Lyle added that she is waiting for the SPCA to contact her and hopes the dogs will be tracked down.

In the other dog attack, which occurred in Ashburton last week, Ettiene Fivaz and his Belgian Malinois-Dutch Shepherd mix named Soldier were on their daily walk at 4am when the two pit bulls, Bruno and Rocky, appeared “out of nowhere”.
Fivaz said he shot the attacking pit bulls and killed one, and since then there has been a dispute between him and the dogs’ owner.

He said the police told him they would refer the case to the court for investigation and await instructions from the court.

Fivaz added that Soldier is on the mend, albeit with some scares.

“The soldier has had a very difficult time with associated infections etc. and his condition has actually worsened at times.

“But he seems to be healing slowly now and is taking short walks with me,” said Fivaz.
