One dead in shooting at the start of Independence Day

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – One person died following a shooting in the early morning hours of July 4, 2024.

Further details are pending, and since this is an ongoing investigation, the information Sarasota Police can release is extremely sparse. They were able to confirm that the shots were fired around 1 a.m. near the intersection of Dixie Ave and 24th St.

Passersby say this is by no means an unusual occurrence in the neighborhood. In fact, another shooting occurred just down the street that same week.
