One dead after overnight shooting in Capitol Hill – KIRO 7 News Seattle

SEATTLE – The Seattle Police Department (SPD) is investigating reports of a shooting after a person was killed in Capitol Hill early Monday morning.

According to SPD, 911 (CARE) received a report of a shooting in the 1000 block of East Pike Street just before 12:30 a.m. Police say the fatal shooting occurred in or near the parking lot of Teto’s restaurant at the corner of Pine Street and 10th Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a person shot and treated the victim until the Seattle Fire Department (SFD) arrived. Despite the assistance, the SFD pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

KIRO 7 spoke to a witness who said she was still on the road celebrating Pride weekend: “It all happened very quickly. I was just about to leave and as I was walking to my car, I heard gunshots behind me.”

The woman did not want to reveal her identity publicly because she was almost shot: “It was actually very scary. I had to run to my car.”

The police investigation appeared to be complete shortly before 6:30 a.m. after several cars were towed from the parking lot near where the victim died. Investigators say the circumstances and motive for the shooting are still unknown and are under investigation.

The Capitol Hill shooting caps a series of killings in recent days. Over the weekend of June 22, a person was shot and killed at Alki Beach in West Seattle, late last week a 14-year-old was shot and killed in South Seattle, and early Sunday morning a 35-year-old man was shot and killed in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District.

Anyone with information regarding this shooting is asked to call SPD’s Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
