Olympic medallist Bajrang Punia has stated that the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) is “targeting” him with a second ban in two months because “they don’t want” him to continue wrestling. Bajrang was first banned by NADA in early May for failing to provide a urine sample during the selection trials in Sonepat on March 10. His ban was later lifted by the National Anti-Doping Agency (ADDP) disciplinary committee in June, but the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist was banned again two weeks ago.

Bajrang, who led the wrestlers’ protest against former BJP MP and ex-president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, now claims that the national federation is plotting against him.

“This refers to the second suspension in two consecutive months after NADA lifted the first suspension in the same case,” Bajrang wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “NADA obviously ignored all the facts presented to them and suspended me again. This shows how much NADA has it in for me. They don’t want me to continue wrestling at any cost.”

After his first suspension, Bajrang had said that he had no problem in submitting his sample, but he wanted to know why NADA officials had brought an “expired kit” to collect his sample.

In his recent post, Barjang raised the same questions and added that he was ready to “fight to the end.”

“They have no answers and do not want to take responsibility for their mistakes, they just want to bully the athletes to get rid of them… NADA does not want anyone to question their wrong behavior and if someone does, they will be targeted so that they cannot continue their sport… Why does NADA not answer the question about the expired kit?

Why doesn’t NADA answer how an unregistered supervisor, not named in the deployment order, approached me and pressured me to take a sample? Why doesn’t NADA answer why I was pressured to take samples between two fights, even though they knew I only had 20 minutes to prepare for the next fight?

“If NADA wants to challenge the courage and determination of the wrestlers to arrogantly stand up for their rights, then they should do so.

“The wrestler is here and will fight to the end. My lawyer will file his response in due course.”
