Roads in Brunswick and New Hanover counties are closed due to a hazardous materials incident

Shortly before 4 p.m., the Brunswick County Emergency Management Agency and area first responders were still on site where a “hazardous materials situation” had occurred near Navassa.

According to a press release, the incident involved the release of “a chlorine-like substance at 10519 Royster Road.”

“There is no information on the cause of the incident, but public safety and security personnel are on site to monitor the situation and prepare for cleanup,” the press release said.

It also points out that “there is no identifiable threat to the population outside the accident area and no protective measures are currently required on the part of the population.”
