Princess Anne slowly recovering after horse accident: husband

Princess Anne, the sister of King Charles III, is slowly recovering in hospital, her husband said on Wednesday, after she suffered a concussion in an accident involving a horse at their country estate.

“She will be discharged when she is ready,” Tim Laurence also told reporters outside Southmead Hospital in Bristol, western England, where Anne was taken on Sunday.

Anne, 73, suffered a concussion and minor head injuries in Gatcombe Park on Sunday evening and was flown to hospital by helicopter.

It is believed that she was hit by a horse while she was within the protected area of ​​the sprawling property where equestrian events take place.

The princess’s medical team said her injuries were consistent with a possible impact with the head or legs of a horse.

British media reported on Wednesday that the exact circumstances of the incident were unclear due to Anne’s concussion.

The Princess Royal, as she is also called, is a talented equestrian who competed in the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal and has a reputation for being the hardest working member of the royal family.

She has represented King Charles when he postponed public appearances due to his cancer treatment and rode in his official birthday parade this month.

However, the accident forced her to cancel her appearance at a state banquet on Tuesday evening to mark the visit of Japanese Emperor Naruhito and also to cancel an upcoming trip to Canada.

Buckingham Palace said Anne was “in hospital for observation as a precautionary measure and is expected to make a speedy and full recovery.”
