Former USF tight end Teigan Martin was killed in a car crash in Minnesota on Monday morning, the Carver County Sheriff’s Office said.

Emergency crews were called to an accident on County Road 122 near Hollywood Township, Minnesota, shortly after 5 a.m., a report said from CBS Minnesota. Officers discovered a vehicle that had fallen into a ditch.

The sheriff’s office identified Martin as the only occupant of the vehicle. According to the report, he died at the scene.

Investigators said Martin’s BMW M5 was traveling east at a high rate of speed when it crossed the center line, entered a ditch and then overturned.

Martin was 20 years old.

Martin joined USF in 2023 after playing one season at Liberty. He did not play in the 2023 season.

Although he continued to attend USF, he was no longer part of the football team, according to a USF athletics spokesman.

USF Football Martin honored on his X-account Tuesday evening.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Teigan Martin,” said Bulls football coach Alex Golesh. “His teammates, our coaches and staff, and all who knew and loved him are deeply mourning his passing. We extend our deepest condolences to Teigan’s family and friends and are in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

A Minnesota native, Martin attended Mayer Lutheran High School, located about 37 miles west of Minneapolis. In his senior year in 2021, he led the Crusaders to the state championship, starting at both tight end and defensive tackle.

He was a three-star recruit from 247Sports, also receives offers from Iowa State and North Dakota State.

His former high school announced a vigil in honor of Martin on Thursday.

“We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Teigan Martin,” said USF Athletic Director Micheal Kelly. “He was a much loved and valued teammate, friend and member of our USF family whose loss we deeply regret. The University of South Florida community extends its deepest condolences to Teigan’s family, friends and all who knew and loved him.”
