Jeremy Renner admits he can’t play “challenging” roles after snowplow accident

Mayor of Kingstown Star Jeremy Renner admits his days of playing “difficult” characters may be over. The Oscar-nominated actor admits he lacks the “fuel” for challenging roles as he still struggles with the aftermath of last year’s horrific snowplow accident.

Talking about the Smartless On his podcast, Renner revealed how difficult it is for him to find the extra energy needed for more demanding roles while adjusting back to a hectic schedule following his near-fatal accident. According to Renner, he is focused on getting back to full fitness and adjusting to a body that will never be the same after the incident. “I just don’t have the energy for it. I don’t have the fuel,” Renner said. “I have to put so much fuel into this reality, into this body, into all this stuff. I can’t just pretend right now. Because it takes a lot of time to come right here every day just so I can have a positive thought, so I can keep making progress and keep growing.”

The star of “The Umbrella Academy” joins the newly extended Taylor Sheridan series

An Umbrella Academy star will appear in the second season of a newly renewed series starring Taylor Sheridan.

Renner continues to undergo therapy to recover from the snowplow accident that occurred on New Year’s Day last year when his PistenBully snow groomer ran over him after he saved it from running over his nephew. Renner suffered multiple broken bones, a broken leg, blunt chest trauma and severe blood loss in the accident, requiring multiple surgeries and intensive physical therapy before he could return to work for Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 last January. Renner’s attitude toward acting has changed drastically since the incident, giving him a deeper perspective. “Because am I supposed to, like, do fiction? I’m still trying to live in reality, I’m trying to live. So it was a difficult boundary for me to cross,” he said. “It was a big challenge. It was a big, big challenge for me to get over that hurdle.”

Jeremy Renner returns for a new season of Mayor of Kingstown

Mayor of Kingstown In season 3, Renner once again plays the titular main character Mike McLusky, and stars in the series alongside Emma Laird, Michael Beach and series co-creator Hugh Dillon. Renner previously admitted he’s anxious about returning to work and his difficulties adjusting to the long production hours. However, he doesn’t think his lead role is too demanding. “I still struggle with it sometimes, so I don’t take it super seriously. I’m playing a role that I’m very good at playing, and I know the show very well, so it was easy for me to slip back into it,” he said. “But if it had been a very demanding role, I wouldn’t have been able to take it. Not challenging in that sense – because the show is demanding, but it would be like having to play Dahmer or something, something that’s so far removed from me.”
