Two years later, still no charges in the killing of a Kansas City woman

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – A Missouri family is desperately searching for answers more than two years after the shooting of a 27-year-old mother of three.

Police arrested someone that same evening, but no charges were filed.

“It was the most devastating and difficult part of my life. I never thought I would lose a child,” said Donna Wilson, the victim’s mother.

Donna Wilson and her husband have missed their daughter terribly. Hannah Leeson, a mother, singer and her mother, says she was the most outgoing person she knew.

Now that she’s gone, Wilson is heartbroken.

“This is something you can never put behind you and we can’t get over it,” Donna said.

Leeson was killed near the 11800 block of N. Illinois Avenue in March 2022. Someone was taken into custody the day of her murder.

Fox4 is not naming this person because he has not been charged with any crime at this time.

“We tried calling, left voicemails, tried to set up another meeting, and we didn’t get a call back,” said Ricky Wilson, Leeson’s stepfather.

The Wilsons say they even arranged a meeting with the Clay County District Attorney’s Office, but that meeting was canceled before it even took place.

FOX4 reached out to us and in a statement, a spokesperson for the Clay County District Attorney’s Office said:

“Unfortunately, District Attorney Thompson is out of the office until next week and we are unable to comment on any cases. Nor can I confirm or deny any meetings the office may or may not have had with the victim’s family.”

The Wilson family wants nothing more than answers about what led to this and what, if anything, will happen next.

“If it had been your child, you would have cared, you would have had the answers,” Donna said.
