Two teenagers arrested during investigation into drive-by shooting in Burlington, accused of possession of weapons of mass destruction, police say

ALAMANCE COUNTY, NC (WGHP) — Two teenagers were arrested Wednesday in connection with the investigation of a drive-by shooting, according to a news release from the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office.

On Wednesday morning, ACSO officers began working with the SBI and Burlington Police Department to locate a suspect in the investigation of a drive-by shooting.

Officers had arrest warrants for 19-year-old Kayden LeCharles Trice of Burlington, who was allegedly involved in a May 28 shooting on Spence Street in Burlington.

Officers learned that Trice was staying at a home on Center Avenue in Burlington.

Officers arrived and ordered Trice to leave the house. Officers noticed movement inside the house, but no one initially complied.

The ACSO Special Response Team was deployed because officers assessed the situation as very risky.

Crisis negotiators managed to get one of Trice’s relatives on the phone and persuade him to leave the house.

Trice surrendered without incident.

Officers learned that an unknown number of people were still inside the home and refusing to leave.

Crisis negotiators contacted the people, who eventually surrendered.

Four other suspects, two of them minors, left the house and turned themselves in without incident.

During the search, investigators discovered five firearms. One of them was stolen, another was modified. Several stolen credit cards were also found.

Two suspects were arrested and taken to the Alamance County Detention Center.

Trice was charged with:

  • one count of aggravated possession of a weapon of mass destruction
  • one count of aggravated possession of burglary tools
  • one count of possession of a stolen firearm
  • two cases of shootings in an occupied residential building
  • a case of failure to appear for an offence

He was not granted any bail.

Ben Benduce Fayette, 18, of Roanoke, Virginia, was charged with:

  • one count of aggravated possession of a weapon of mass destruction
  • one count of possession of a stolen firearm

He was given bail of $50,000.
