Redmond PD releases photo and asks for public’s help in finding the owner of a dog that fatally attacked another dog at the fairgrounds

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) – Redmond police asked for the public’s help Wednesday in identifying the owner of four Great Danes, one of which fatally attacked a Pomeranian dog at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds on Monday.

The Pomeranian’s owner rushed the dog to a nearby animal hospital, but it did not survive the attack, Lt. Eric Beckwith of the Redmond Police Department.

“Neither the owners of the Great Dane nor the Pomeranian were able to contact each other,” Beckwith said in a news release.

Redmond police released a photo of a white SUV and said that was the only identification they received, believed to be the Great Dane’s owner.

“As a reminder, dogs must be on a leash within Redmond city limits and outside of dog parks,” Beckwith said. “Dog owners must have control of their dogs at all times while on the Deschutes County Fairgrounds.”

The woman who owns the Pomeranian posted about the incident on the social media app Nextdoor, saying she was bringing her “Poms” to the fairgrounds “to run them. They love it there.”

“I am so lost and saddened by his loss,” she wrote. “When I finally got him away, all I could do was go straight to the vet. But I knew he was gone.”

The lieutenant said if you are the owner of the Great Dane or know who the owner is, please contact the Redmond Police Department via the emergency number (541-693-6911), reference case #24-12866.
