Destructive winds will be the main threat.

ATLANTA — A series of storms producing damaging winds will move into the Atlanta metro area Wednesday evening.

The Storm Prediction Center has identified a portion of our region as a Level 3 Severe Weather Threat.

Stronger storms will be possible. The risk of hail and tornadoes is also lower, although wind remains the main threat.

Storms will occur after 11 p.m. in the north and move further south overnight.

These storms will still be around Thursday morning for the drive, with heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds.

11Alive will be tracking any further weather developments this evening.

5:16 p.m. Update: A tornado watch has been issued for Pickens, Chattooga, Towns, Gordon, Gilmer, Fannin, Dawson, White, Union and Clay counties from 5:16 p.m. to midnight.
