Tampa man kills parents, shoots deputy before being killed

A Tampa man is dead following a shootout with Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office officers after he shot his parents Saturday night. According to HCSO, officers were called to the 14000 block of Cactus Wren Place in Tampa shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday for a shooting. The caller told the HCSO dispatcher that her husband had been shot and several more shots were fired while the caller was speaking with the dispatcher. When officers arrived, they found the caller and the suspected shooter outside the residence. The sheriff’s office said the suspect then shot his mother, the caller, before firing at responding officers. HCSO identified the suspect as 19-year-old Christos Alexander. Five responding officers returned fire on Alexander, who was hit and then retreated into the home. A robot was deployed to enter the home, where Alexander’s father was found dead. The HCSO said Alexander was then found by the SWAT team in the home after he succumbed to his injuries. Deputy Shane McGough was shot in the leg during the incident. He is recovering in a hospital. In a press conference following the shooting, Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said officers had already been called to the home 10 times since 2021, mostly for mental health care and violence from Alexander against his parents. Officers had previously seized firearms from Alexander after a restraining order was issued. Investigators are trying to determine how Alexander obtained the gun he used to shoot his parents. Sheriff Chronister said, “Our officers responded to a chaotic scene and immediately placed themselves in harm’s way to protect our community. Without the quick and skillful response of our officers, an entire neighborhood would have been in danger.”

A Tampa man is dead following a shootout with Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office officers after he shot both of his parents Saturday night.

According to HCSO, officers were called to the 14000 block of Cactus Wren Place in Tampa shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday for a shooting. The caller told the HCSO dispatcher that her husband had been shot and several more shots were fired while the caller was speaking with the dispatcher.

When officers arrived, they found the caller and the suspected shooter outside the home. The sheriff’s office said the suspect then shot his mother and the caller before shooting at officers who were responding.

The HCSO identified the suspect as 19-year-old Christos Alexander.

Five officers responded and returned fire at Alexander, who was hit and then retreated into the house.

With the help of a robot, they entered the house where Alexander’s father was found dead.

The HCSO said Alexander was then found by the SWAT team inside the house, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Deputy Shane McGough was shot in the leg during the incident. He is currently recovering in the hospital.

In a press conference after the shooting, Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said officers had been called to the home 10 times since 2021, mostly for mental health care and because of violence from Alexander toward his parents. Officers had previously seized firearms from Alexander after an active risk protection order was filed.

Investigators are trying to find out how Alexander got hold of the gun he used to shoot his parents.
