Teenager dies, four others injured in shooting in Fairmount Park in Philadelphia

A teenager was killed and at least four injured in a shooting at a party in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park late Friday night, authorities said.

The incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. near 33rd Street and Ridge Avenue, according to PhillyVoice.

Officers were trying to enforce the curfew and disperse a crowd of about 100 teenagers and young adults at an impromptu party when shots rang out, police said.

The teenagers ran in different directions, but at least five of them were hit by bullets, NBC Philadelphia reported.

Police initially found two injured teenagers and took them to Temple University Hospital.

One of the victims, a 17-year-old girl who was shot in the chest and right shoulder, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other, an 18-year-old girl, suffered a gunshot wound to the right leg. Her condition is said to be stable.

Authorities later found three more victims: a 14-year-old boy who had been shot in the stomach and two 15-year-old boys, both shot in the left leg. All three are considered stable.

According to police, eleven cartridge cases were found at the crime scene, but no weapons.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

“We don’t know what led to this shooting. What was the motive or if any of these five victims were targeted,” Inspector DF Pace told NBC Philadelphia. “We just don’t have that information yet. It’s too early in the investigation.”
