City opens cooling centers as Atlanta area prepares for hottest temperatures of year so far – WSB-TV Channel 2

ATLANTA — The Atlanta area is about to be hit by the hottest temperatures of the year so far, and the city says it’s opening cooling shelters for people who need to escape in the heat.

Severe Weather Team 2 says temperatures will reach the 90s but could reach nearly 100 degrees on Saturday. With the humidity, it will feel like temperatures will be in the triple digits Saturday afternoon.

Due to extreme heat, the city will open the cooling center at Selena Butler Park and Recreation Center, 98 WM Holmes Borders Dr. SE.

The center will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and water will be provided to those who come to the centers.
