Delta Assembly recalls suspended MP

The Delta House of Assembly on Thursday recalled the Member of Parliament for Ughelli North 1 Constituency, Mr Matthew Omonade.

The Assembly suspended the lawmaker on May 14 for alleged gross misconduct.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Dennis Guwor, announced the removal of the MP at the plenary session in Asaba on Thursday.

This came after the House of Representatives set up an ad hoc committee to investigate Omonade.

The spokesman said: “The House of Representatives has therefore lifted the suspension after accepting the committee’s recommendations.

“He (Omonade) is expected to resume his plenary session and other legislative duties on the next day of the session.”

Earlier, House Majority Leader Emeka Nwaobi said that after a thorough investigation, Parliament had recommended issuing a warning regarding Omonade to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

He said the committee had also recommended that the recalled MP be made to familiarise himself with the Rules of Procedure of the House of Representatives.
