“Whenever we talked, it was as if we never missed a beat, as if no time had passed,” said Darryl Snyder, a friend of Walker’s.

“We were like two peas in a pod,” said Justin West, another friend of Walker’s.

For over 20 years, Snyder and West called Byron Walker a good friend, roommate and brother in the military fraternity.

They also said he was a kind and loving person and a devoted father.

“Byron and I weren’t really friends. We were brothers,” West said.

Sadly, all they have left now are memories of Walker.

On May 23, Walker was found shot multiple times on Maidstone Cove Dr., according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. He was taken to UF Health, where he later died.

“It was horrible. My heart was ripped out,” West said. “At that moment, the air was taken away from me. My heart stopped. And then the pain started.”

According to JSO, one person was arrested, but police are still investigating.

Walker’s friends and family are still seeking justice.

“A mother lost a son, best friends lost brothers, cousins lost a brother,” West said.

“I just hope more for the family, that they find peace and justice in the situation and that this is resolved quickly,” Snyder said.

Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
