19-year-old second arrested after accident with fatality and injured man: TPD

TAMPA, Florida – A second arrest has been made in connection with a traffic accident in Tampa that left a 60-year-old woman dead and a 70-year-old man injured on June 3.

Tampa police said officers received information on June 10 about the second suspect, 19-year-old Daniel Hernandez, who was driving a black Camaro that was involved in the crash and allegedly fled the scene.

Witnesses told police that the crash, which occurred around 10:25 a.m. at the corner of North Dale Mabry Highway and West South Avenue, appeared to have been caused by racing.

According to police, the first suspect, 22-year-old Andy Moya Robaina, was driving a 2011 BMW alongside Hernandez’s Camaro at a high rate of speed. Robaina’s BMW then collided with a Nissan Versa in which the two victims were sitting.

Investigators met with Hernandez and a passenger in his Camaro. After the meeting, they said they were able to establish probable cause for Hernandez’s arrest, and he was charged with vehicular manslaughter (leaving the scene of an accident), unauthorized racing on a highway, reckless driving causing serious bodily injury and unauthorized leaving the scene of an accident causing death.

Hernandez was taken to Orient Road Jail and his Camaro was confiscated.

Robaina had previously been arrested and charged with negligent homicide and racing on a highway.
