Woman arrested after pointing gun at Dunkin’ employee in Maine

A 33-year-old woman was arrested for pointing a gun at an employee at Dunkin’ Donuts in Rumford after she was denied entry to the store after closing time.

The incident occurred at the Congress Street location around 8 p.m. on Wednesday after employees refused to allow her into the closed store to make a phone call.

Criminal charges

Rumford police said Rebecca Sims of Mexico, Maine, was charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and menacing display of a weapon.

Suspect pointed gun at drive-thru employee

According to the police report, Sims “walked to the drive-thru window when it closed and pointed a semi-automatic pistol at the clerk.”

Woman identified from photos and surveillance footage

Officers identified Sims from a photo and description on an employee’s cell phone. A sniffer dog team attempted to track her down, but she had already left the area in a vehicle. Surveillance footage was also used to identify the suspects.

Arrest warrant executed at suspect’s residence

Rumford Police and the Maine State Police Tactical Team executed an arrest warrant at her residence at 103 Granite Street in Mexico, Maine on Thursday.

Police “surrounded the attacker’s home and ordered her to leave at gunpoint. She was arrested without further incident,” Rumford police said.

Police confiscated loaded pistols, machetes, hatchets and Bowie knives

The apartment was searched and police seized “four firearms, including a pistol and a shotgun, including the semi-automatic pistol believed to have been used in the crime, as well as a machete, a hatchet, a Bowie knife and several loaded, ready-to-use magazines.”

Brought to prison

Sims was taken to the Oxford County Jail and then transferred to the York County Jail on $1,000 bail.
