A boy and his parents were injured in a dog attack in Fall River, Massachusetts on Saturday night.

Police told NBC10’s Boston affiliate WJAR that they were called to an apartment building on Aetna Street around 8:50 p.m. because a child had been attacked by a dog.

According to police, a seven-year-old boy entered the house with his mother while a neighbor left the house with a dog on a leash.

The boy was apparently frightened by the dog, WJAR reports, and the dog responded by biting him on the leg. When the boy’s mother tried to get her son away from the dog, she was bitten.

The boy’s father rushed to help, but he suffered a bite wound to the groin area, police told WJAR.

The boy and his father were taken to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The mother suffered superficial bite wounds, police said.

The dog was taken into the custody of animal control to begin quarantine.
