Police search for suspect after shooting in Opa-locka

OPA LOCKA, Florida. – Opa-locka residents were suddenly awakened Saturday morning by a shooting and a police search involving armored SWAT vehicles, a helicopter and police dogs.

Some at the Mirage at Sailboat Cove, 14301 NW 17 Ave., were unable to leave their homes for hours. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to a medical call at Northwest 142 Lane and 17 Avenue.

According to Detective Angel Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, homicide detectives were deployed to assist the Opa-locka Police Department.
