A driver shoots another driver in the face during an incident of driving aggression

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – A suspect has been arrested in connection with a driving rage incident in south Oklahoma City that ended with a driver being shot in the face.

“He should have done something, but when you get shot in the face, there’s not much you can do,” said Jerry, who lives near where the incident occurred.

Oklahoma City police arrested Jesus Flores. He faces several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon and illegal possession of a firearm.

According to a court affidavit, on May 30, a driver was traveling south on I-35 when he cut off another driver, Jesus Flores. Flores appeared to become angry and began following the victim.

The victim turned off the Southeast 59th exit to go to Metal Check when Flores pulled over on his driver’s side.

According to documents, Flores pulled out a firearm and fired several shots, many of which struck the vehicle and one of which struck the victim in the cheek.

Flores sped away while the victim drove to the Phillips 66 gas station on High Avenue and called for help.

Eventually the victim was taken to the hospital and survived.

Surveillance footage from the area showed Flores driving back to the house where he was staying, where police arrested him.

“This is so crazy,” said Judy LeClaire, who also lives near the incident.

LeClaire said she frequently witnesses road rage on this highway and that she recently experienced some of it herself.

“I didn’t even know. They pulled up next to me and her boyfriend rolled down the window. She was screaming and yelling at me and I said, ‘I know, I’m so sorry,'” LeClaire said. “We drove up to the light and when it turned, I turned right. They had to go straight because she was in the middle lane. I turned right, got on the highway and came home just to be safe.”

“Good,” Jerry said when he learned of the suspect’s arrest. “He shouldn’t have done it. If someone shoots you, you shoot back. I’ve had someone get mad at me on the street before.”

Jerry said he tries not to let it bother him when he gets angry on the road. “I see people here all the time getting angry and giving the middle finger. I just look at them and think, ‘Oh, hey buddy, have a nice day.'”

Documents show that Flores has a troubled past, including a domestic offense a few years ago in Moore.

The victim eventually managed to identify Flores during a lineup of suspects, which ultimately led to his arrest.

The documents also show that Flores has been convicted several times in California for serious crimes, including kidnapping.

Flores is in the Oklahoma County Jail with bail set at $150,000.
