Enjoy a refreshing drink while supporting child entrepreneurs on Lemonade Day

HOUSTON – On May 18, get ready as kids set up their lemonade stands all over Houston on Lemonade Day. While you enjoy a glass of fresh lemonade, kids will practice their business skills in the real world.

Lemonade Day is a nonprofit organization that offers free and fun experiential learning programs on how to start, own and operate a business. They use a simple childhood activity as a model to empower today’s children to become tomorrow’s entrepreneurs.

What started as a program in Houston has grown into a movement across the United States, Canada, Bermuda and six U.S. military bases.

Students in grades K-8 can participate in this program and learn skills that last into adulthood. Parents simply need to register on their website to have access to the free educational application. From the comfort of your home, the app walks would-be young entrepreneurs through Lemonade Day lessons including creating budgets, setting profit goals, marketing their business, acquiring problem-solving skills and give it back to the community.

On “Houston Life” we heard an adorable brother and sister duo talk about what they learned from this program. Nine-year-old Graceon Miles and eight-year-old Genesis Miles shared how the program taught them to save, spend and be creative with their product. Watch the Miles siblings’ interview in the video above.

The Miles siblings also showed Tessa their recipe for sweet strawberry lemonade, which includes a secret ingredient. Tessa tried to share the secret with them, but they wouldn’t budge. You will have to visit them at their lemonade stand for a glass of their refreshing strawberry lemonade. They will also have two other drinks, the original tamarind lemonade drink, and a fun spinner to personalize your snow cones.
