Authorities have arrested a Thai man in Bangkok after a doctor reported that a 12-year-old girl claimed she was sexually abused by her father. Stepfather since she was six years old and that her mother didn’t believe her.

The disturbing events began around 2017, when the girl was only six years old. The young girl lived with her biological mother and stepfather in Tak province and reported that her stepfather, 60-year-old Amnuay, took advantage of her during her mother’s absence.

This abuse continued regularly, with the stepfather threatening to kill the girl’s mother if she told anyone, resulting in six years of repeated abuse. Even after moving to Bangkok, the abuse continued. Despite attempts to inform her mother, the girl was met with disbelief and her mother sided with the stepfather.

In May, the girl was raped again and contracted dengue fever. She went to a hospital where a compassionate doctor listened to her story. The young girl decided to reveal the full extent of her suffering to the doctor, who immediately contacted social workers.

Detailed examinations confirmed that the girl’s injuries were consistent with sexual abuse. The doctor realized how dangerous it was to return the girl to her family and arranged for her to be placed in a child protection home in Bangkok.

When the girl’s brother learned of the abuse, he took her to Lak Song Police Station to file a complaint. This resulted in an arrest warrant being issued for Amnuay, who initially evaded arrest with the help of the girl’s mother, who misled the authorities.

arrest

The Metropolitan Police and the Narcotics Suppression Bureau arrested Amnuay yesterday outside an apartment on Phetkasem 84 Road in Bang Khae, Bangkok. The arrest was made based on a warrant issued by the Thonburi Criminal Court for sexually abusing a child under the age of 13, whether or not the child consented, and the fact that he held a position of authority over the child.

Teeradej Thammasutee, chief of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, dispatched a team led by Inspector Thanapeersit Joonpipop to arrest Amnuay, who was found with the girl’s mother. When questioned about her behaviour, the mother replied that her daughter could not understand anything.

During the arrest, Amnuay denied all the allegations, claiming he met the 12-year-old girl when she was three years old when he started dating her mother. He insisted he had done nothing wrong and accused the girl of fabricating the allegations because she has autism and her academic performance, which is often reported by her teachers, is poor. After his arrest, Amnuay was taken to Lak Song Police Station for prosecution.

The police chief commented that the investigation did not fully trust Amnuay’s testimony and stressed that the girl’s testimony was credible and that there was sufficient evidence for an arrest warrant, Sanook reported.

“The words of a child are purer, and there is no reason for a 12-year-old to falsely accuse a family member unless she has truly been harmed.”

Teeradej urged the public to provide further information through the IDMB website and promised to act promptly in all cases of public distress, in line with the guidelines of Deputy Commissioner Kittirat Panpetch and Commissioner Thiti Saengsawang.
