Increased security measures at Cricket World Cup after terror alert

NASSAU COUNTY/NYC — GOV. KATHY HOCHUL has ordered increased security measures The governor made the statement Wednesday after NYPD intelligence warned of pro-ISIS threats ahead of the upcoming India-Pakistan match at the Cricket World Cup. World Cup matches will be held at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow starting Saturday, and related events will be held across New York City. Hochul said her administration has been working for months to ensure the safety of residents and visitors. “This has included close coordination with the New York State Police Counterterrorism Unit and New York State Police Troop L based on Long Island,” she said. “I have also directed the New York State Police to implement heightened security measures, including increased police presence, enhanced surveillance and thorough screening procedures.”

The first warm-up game is scheduled for Saturday, and then Nassau is expected to host eight games in 11 days starting Monday, reports abc7ny. Almost two million People have applied for tickets.
