Officials investigate bear killing near South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Department of Conservation officials are investigating after a bear was killed near South Lake Tahoe on Monday.

The BEAR League wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday that it had received reports of a bear being shot in South Lake Tahoe on Monday afternoon.

The BEAR League said it received a report from a neighbor that a bear was sleeping in a tree in a yard. According to the BEAR League, the neighbor said that after the bear woke up, it went into the house. The resident of the house then chased the bear out and shot it.

The BEAR League demands that the shooter be held accountable.

“A 16-month-old yearling with his whole life ahead of him,” the Bear League wrote in a social media post on Facebook.
