NEW DELHI: Dashing Indian wicketkeeper and batsman Rishabh Pant admitted that he is reluctant to go to the airport after his life-threatening injury as he is afraid of meeting other people while in a wheelchair.

The 26-year-old suffered multiple injuries in a near-fatal car accident on the Delhi-Dehradun highway in December 2022.

“The accident was a life-changing experience for me. When I got up afterward, I wasn’t even sure if I would be alive, but God was kind enough to save me,” Pant said on “Dhawan Karenge,” a talk show hosted by Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan.

After the terrible accident, Pant had to undergo major knee surgery and extensive rehabilitation.

Recalling his ordeal, Pant said, “I could not go to the airport because I was afraid of facing people in wheelchairs. For two months, I could not even brush my teeth and for six to seven months, I was in unbearable pain.”

Despite these challenges, Pant made a remarkable comeback after 14 months and performed at his best in the recently concluded IPL. His resilience and determination have been a source of inspiration and illustrated his journey from a horrific accident to returning to the cricket field.
