Visakhapatnam: 20 years in prison for raping his granddaughter

Visakhapatnam: A court in Posco has sentenced 65-year-old V. Shyam Sundara Rao to 20 years in prison for sexually abusing his 12-year-old granddaughter in 2017. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 500,000 on him.

According to the prosecution, Sundar Rao repeatedly raped his granddaughter on the premises of Malkapuram police station and threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone. “Sundar Rao raped the sixth-grade student while she was doing her homework in a room on the second floor of her hostel. The victim raised an alarm,” it said.

Malkapuram police have registered a case under section 376 of IPC and sections of POCSO Act-2012. The police have arrested the accused and framed a charge sheet against him. G Anandini court passed the verdict and ordered that the victim be paid the amount of fine.
