17-year-old arrested for April shooting | Spokane News

POST FALLS, Idaho – A Post Falls teenager involved in a shooting has been indicted by a grand jury on suspicion of murder.

After further investigation and review of surveillance video, a grand jury convened and issued an arrest warrant for 17-year-old Ashlan Hjelmstrom.

According to a press release from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement officers from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, along with members of the Coeur d’Alene Police Community Action Team (CAT) and the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), have issued an arrest warrant for Hjelmstrom for assault with intent to murder, unlawful discharge of a firearm, concealment of evidence, conspiracy to commit murder, and aggravated assault.

Hjelmstrom is accused of shooting a man near Upriver Drive and Highway 95 in Coeur d’Alene in April. He was with 18-year-old Devin Spring, who was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault.

Hjelmstrom was taken into custody and booked into the Region 1 Juvenile Detention Center without incident. He is being charged as an adult.

Investigators said everyone involved knew each other.
