Two Peterborough men face multiple charges over Saturday’s stabbing

Two Peterborough men face multiple charges for stabbing a man early Saturday morning (May 25) as he tried to steal his e-bike.

At approximately 2:40 a.m., Peterborough Police were called by emergency services to the area of ​​Lake and George Streets in downtown Peterborough where a 52-year-old man was being treated after being stabbed. When officers arrived at the scene, they learned that two men had attempted to steal the victim’s e-bike.

Officers began pursuing the two suspects with a police dog when they received a second call about two men matching the police description being seen in the area of ​​George Street and Sherbrooke Street. Officers arrived in the area, located the two suspects on Charlotte Street and arrested them without incident. During a search of the suspects after their arrest, officers seized two knives.

The 52-year-old man who was stabbed was taken to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre and then to a Toronto hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the police investigation, the two suspects – a 22-year-old man and an 18-year-old man from Peterborough – were each charged with grievous bodily harm, robbery and assault, as well as threatening to kill or cause bodily harm.

The defendants are being held in police custody and are due to appear in court on Saturday.
