Atlanta police release body camera video of arrests made during Emory University protests – 95.5 WSB

ATLANTA — Atlanta police released new body camera video Wednesday evening showing officers arresting protesters at Emory University last month.

On April 25, APD assisted the Emory Police Department in securing the campus after a group of protesters against the war between Israel and Hamas reportedly refused to “disperse peacefully.”

Police arrested at least 28 people.

The video shows a student removing crime scene tape set up by police to keep protesters in a certain area of campus. After removing the tape, the police arrested the protester.

Another protester tried to prevent the police from taking the protester away. This protester was then tackled to the ground and arrested by the police.

In one of the videos posted, police are seen arresting a protester after she encountered police speaking into a megaphone. She was tackled to the ground and arrested by the police.

The protests are a response to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. Protests took place at several universities in April and May, with groups setting up camps after the arrest of more than 100 protesters at Columbia University.

Students at these protests called on their universities to divest from all companies that support Israeli military efforts in Gaza – and, in some cases, to divest from Israel itself.

After the campus protests, Emory moved its degree off campus to Gwinnett County.
