Kootenai County Residents Receive Fake Sheriff Alert – Dailyfly

(Kootenai County, Idaho) – A text message and email alert entitled “Kootenai Sheriff Alert” was sent out to Kootenai County residents this morning. This message is not from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office or the Sheriff’s Office. Use of such a headline is misleading and constitutes an impersonation of the Sheriff and the Sheriff’s Office.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office would also like to clarify that any reference to “Kootenai Sheriff Alert” in the context of political activities does not constitute an official communication from this office.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the fraudulent message and would like to advise the public that any communication containing the designation “Kootenai Sheriff Alert” in a text or email message should be completely rejected.
