4 employees suspended, one dismissed for MCC violation – Kashmir Reader

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Election Department has taken action against 40 government employees for violating the Model Code of Conduct in the Union Territory.
“Four employees have been suspended, disciplinary action has been taken against one, besides, one employee has been dismissed from service and investigation has been initiated against 34 employees,” said a communiqué in this regard received here today.
The swift action against these employees of various departments of J&K was initiated in response to the daily online reports from the concerned District Returning Officers of various districts and offline complaints received on the official email ID of the J&K Chief Electoral Officer from the public , office-bearers of various political parties and Panchayati Raj institutions regarding MCC violations.
The move was aimed at ensuring free and fair conduct of ongoing general elections while adhering to the Election Commission of India’s zero-tolerance policy towards such violations.
The two employees were suspended in Kupwara, one in Ganderbal and one in Doda district and investigations were initiated against them. Disciplinary action was recommended against an employee found to be involved in political activities, while a chowkidar was discharged/dismissed from service due to proven involvement in political activities.
The relevant authority has warned an employee of future caution who claimed to have made the mistake unknowingly. Additionally, investigations are underway against 34 employees, including six gazetted employees, which will be brought to a logical conclusion as per the directions of the Election Commission of India.
The highest number of violations were reported from Srinagar district, followed by Kulgam and Rajouri as the second highest and Udhampur and Ganderbal districts as the third highest number, while the least number of violations were reported from Kishtwar, Bandipora, Reasi and Samba districts, the communiqué added
