Helping Hands stops recording due to a flood of walkers

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – The Helping Hands Humane Society of Topeka will not be taking in strays this weekend as a recent wave of strays has filled its kennels to capacity.

Helping Hands posted on social media Thursday that it would not be taking in any more dogs until space was made. The shelter says it has taken in 177 dogs in the last two weeks.

The post encourages anyone with a shelter pet to get it back for free and offers steps for anyone who encounters a lost dog. Helping Hands has also been trying to place dogs into new homes, with several adoptions still ongoing.
